Final Exam Calculator

How to use it

Enter your current grade, your desired final grade, and the percentage the final exam counts toward your total. The result is the score you need on the final.

Formula

Needed = (Target − Current × (1 − Weight ÷ 100)) ÷ (Weight ÷ 100)

Examples

Example: Current 88%, target 90%, final worth 25%. Needed = (90 − 88 × 0.75) ÷ 0.25 = (90 − 66) ÷ 0.25 = 96%.

Low-pressure final: Current 93%, target 90%, final worth 40%. Needed = (90 − 93 × 0.60) ÷ 0.40 = (90 − 55.8) ÷ 0.40 = 85.5%.

Frequently asked questions

How is the final exam score calculated?
It uses the weighted-average formula solved for the unknown final score: the score that makes your weighted total exactly equal your target.
What if my final is worth less than I thought?
A lower final weight means your current grade counts more, so the needed final score changes — re-run the calculator with the correct weight.
Can I calculate this in reverse?
Yes — our final grade calculator and what-grade-do-I-need tools use the same math for different wordings.
