How to use it
Add each assignment with its grade (%) and its weight (percentage or points). The calculator multiplies each grade by its weight, sums them, and divides by the total weight.
Formula
Weighted grade = Σ(weight × grade) ÷ Σ(weight)Examples
Example: Homework 80% (weight 30), exam 90% (weight 50), project 72% (weight 20). Weighted = (30×80 + 50×90 + 20×72) ÷ 100 = 83.4%.
Points as weights: Quiz 85% (3 points), test 90% (5 points), paper 70% (2 points). Weighted = (3×85 + 5×90 + 2×70) ÷ (3+5+2) = 84.5%.
Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between weighted and unweighted?
Weighted accounts for each item's importance (weight); unweighted treats every score equally.
Can weights be points instead of percentages?
Yes — the formula works for any positive weights, including points or credit hours.
Why is my weighted average different from my simple average?
Because high-weight items (like exams) pull the average more than low-weight ones (like homework).
