What Grade Do I Need on My Final?

How to use it

This answers the classic question: enter your current average, your target average, and the weight of what's left (your final or remaining assignments). The calculator returns the required score.

Formula

Required score = (Target − Current × (1 − Remaining weight)) ÷ Remaining weight

Examples

One exam left: Current 74%, want 80%, final worth 30%. Required = (80 − 74 × 0.70) ÷ 0.30 = 94%.

Already safe: Current 91%, want 90%, final worth 20%. Required = (90 − 91 × 0.80) ÷ 0.20 = 86%.

Frequently asked questions

What grade do I need to pass?
Set your target to the passing threshold (often 60% or 70%) and the calculator tells you the minimum score on the remaining work.
Does this account for weighted categories?
This uses a single remaining weight. For multiple weighted categories, use the weighted grade calculator instead.
What if I get a negative required score?
A negative or very low result means you've already secured your target and can score below it and still pass.
