How to use it
Enter each course's grade and credits, and mark which ones are honors/AP. The calculator adds +1.0 grade point for advanced courses (a common weighted scale).
Formula
Weighted GPA = Σ((grade points + honors bonus) × credits) ÷ Σ(credits)Examples
Example: AP course A (4.0 + 1.0 = 5.0, 4cr) and regular B (3.0, 4cr). Weighted GPA = (5.0×4 + 3.0×4) ÷ 8 = 4.0.
Example: Honors B (3.0 + 1.0 = 4.0, 3cr) and regular A (4.0, 3cr). GPA = (12 + 12) ÷ 6 = 4.0.
Frequently asked questions
How much is the honors bonus?
It varies by school — many add +0.5 for honors and +1.0 for AP/IB. Adjust based on your school's scale.
Is weighted GPA out of 5.0?
Often yes when a +1.0 bonus is used, but some schools use 4.5 or other scales.
Do colleges prefer weighted or unweighted?
Colleges usually recalculate GPA themselves and consider both, along with course rigor.
